Long Story Short
Long Story Short
As pages rip off your calendar, you count the days until you graduate. Your piles of schoolwork turn into certificates of primary year completion. You are reminded that your days of fooling around are long gone. It’s time to tie your own shoes! You will soon embark on an exciting new journey for the next six years of your life: high school. It might seem daunting for you right now. We do not blame you. This part of your life will be a whole new journey full of unknown experiences with both the ups and downs of growing into a whole new level of education. Do not fear change in your life but embrace it!
“Your high school journey will be the golden years of your life,” you may often hear adults repeat this saying over and over again. The first thing you need to understand right from the get go is that you do not have to rush the timeline of this next period of your life. A lot of people will emphasize, or over-emphasize, the importance of immediately knowing what you will pursue in the future of your high school life. Our dear friend, do not feel pressured to settle for what your heart has yet to desire. Your high school years are there for you to discover the world that you are about to embark on. Use that time to explore new hobbies and have fun. Perhaps, it is through these experiences that you will find a personal legend that will spark a flame in your heart.
It would be a lie to tell you that the tasks will remain easy. In fact, the lessons, tasks, and experiences that come with high school will undoubtedly become much more difficult as the years go by. Take this message as an early reminder to take your studies seriously. Your high school performance determines the future career paths you may take in the future. At times, you may want to quit. You may want to avoid your problems and run away. We advise you to hold on and remind yourself of your already existing progress. Just as the Filipino proverb goes, “malayo pa, pero malayo na.” Sooner or later, you’ll find that the more footsteps you take, the farther you’ll be able to reach.
As you take all your responsibilities seriously, always remember that you are still a teenager. Your academics should be a priority, but never your entire life. Grades don’t define you, but instead they show that you have room for improvement. With that being said, it is important that you find a stable support system. Find a group of friends that you will feel at home with. These friends will make you feel like you’ve reached shore during a time of storms and turbulence. These friends should encourage you to reach for the stars; all the while making sure to keep you grounded when life starts to feel out of control. Despite this, you may lose some friends along the way. Sometimes, these friends come into your life to teach you lessons. Other times, they show you how to be a good friend yourself. It is important to have fun and make time for yourself to avoid burning out. You have so much potential within you, and sometimes, it’s simply a matter of not letting your light fade.
Once you know what you love doing and what you are good at, you can begin to consider the future goals you want to achieve. Keep all your aspirations and dreams in mind as you consider the future paths you want to take. From this point on, you can think of ways you can hone your gifts and nurture your talents. Having a plan for the future is good. However, we must remember that we are walking through the trajectory outlined for us by the almighty author. Just because a wrench was thrown on your path, does not mean that your life ends there. Perhaps it is the universe’s way of redirecting your path for something greater. We embark on the walk of life blindly. However, we must listen to the voices leading us to where we are supposed to be. We must take the leap of faith full of fear. When new experiences seem too scary, we must do it scared.
After you finish your six years of high school, it will all feel like a blur. You may even feel like a twelve-year-old stuck in a high school graduate’s body. But for now, you are still going into high school. It will be challenging and daunting. There will be times when you may feel lost. At the end of the day, always return to your faith in God. Remember to pray every day and read the Bible. Our Heavenly Father has a plan for us. It is only a matter of trusting this plan. When it is time, the Lord will make it happen.
Take our advice and savor the moment. Learn from each experience with an open mind and an enthusiastic heart. Laugh your heart out. The good news is that you are not alone.
Long story short, you will survive this.
